Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) Competition

All students at Fort Street High have the opportunity to participate in the ASX competition, which runs twice a year. Participation in the competition is a valuable way to learn about the risks and rewards of sharemarket investing.

Students are allocated $50,000 of pretend money to purchase shares listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. Successful students analyse the factors that will impact on the share price of different companies, then purchase a portfolio of shares they feel will rise in value. They monitor the shares through a two month period and sell them when they no longer think they will be profitable. Students can win monetary prizes for themselves and their school for successful investing and through sharing their investing tips with other students.
